A globe-touring bandleader and collaborator with some of the most respected names in jazz, Finzer is redefining what it means to be a modern jazz artist. Over the past decade, he has released seven critically acclaimed albums, reached #1 on the JazzWeek Radio Charts, and earned two ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards. In 2020, he received the prestigious New Jazz Works grant from Chamber Music America.
His 2024 release Legacy — honoring the centennial of trombone icon J.J. Johnson — topped the JazzWeek Radio Charts for three consecutive weeks, solidifying his place as a leading voice in contemporary jazz.
In 2018, Finzer made history as the inaugural Professor of Jazz Trombone at the renowned program at the University of North Texas. Beyond the stage, he’s a passionate educator, entrepreneur, and mentor dedicated to helping artists build sustainable, creative careers. Whether through his recordings, performances, teaching, or online presence, Nick Finzer is on a mission to spread the power and joy of jazz worldwide.
And for this special Wichita Jazz Festival performance, he’ll be joined by some of the region’s most exciting young musicians.
