Wichita Jazz Festival Preview
Watermark Books hosts a Wichita Jazz Festival preview concert Saturday April 18th at 1:00 p.m. featuring the seven-piece Wichita Jazz Festival Sessions band. The group is part of a new program launched this year by the Wichita Jazz Festival that offers top area high school musicians an eight-week jazz education and performance program culminating in an appearance at this year's headlining Festival concert. The program is led by William Flynn, guitar professor at Wichita State University, and local jazz musicians and educators Bill Harshbarger and Gray Bishop, The performance will be opened by KMUW FM 89.1 jazz host Chris Heim, who will speak briefly about the month-long Billie Holiday centennial birthday and Jazz Appreciation Month features on KMUW, some of the new writing and research on Billie Holiday, and this year's Wichita Jazz Festival events.

WAM's Thursday concert opens with a showcase of WJF's educational work. An All-Star combo made up of area high school students has been working with WJF personnel and will present as the opening act for Thursday night. Check out the best of Wichita's youngest jazz talent!
Thursday night continues as we feature one of today's brightest young jazz pianists, Addison Frei.
Thursday's concert continues with the venerable Matt Otto on saxophone with his quartet.

Our Friday night concert closes the 2015 WSU Jazz Invitational, featuring the winning combo and big band of the competition, the WSU Jazz Arts Ensemble, and The People's Liberation Big Band of Greater Kansas City! Wichita State University is proud to host the annual Jazz Invitational. With renovated facilities, WSU is excited to host the best and brightest of emerging young jazz talent from around the region. Band directors are invited to have their big bands perform for a panel of distinguished judges consisting of invited clinicians, WSU Jazz faculty, and other jazz personalities. Bands also have the opportunity to work directly with clinicians in coaching sessions following their performance. Come out to this free event at WSU, happening all day on Friday!
